early
Ziegfeld paper flyer is a one sheet fold-over and measures approximately 9 1/2" x 6 1/4". This was the
Ziegfeld Follies
"Latest Musical Revue"
, and this particular Follies appearance took place at the
Illinois Theatre
as part of a "limited engagement" beginning Nov. 22, 1908. On front cover, it states that this was
"...the only Revue under Mr. Florenz Ziegfeld Jr.'s management"
. This Follies revue was staged by
Julian Mitchell
; music was by
Maurice Levi
; the book was written by
Harry B. Smith
. As the cover also states:
"The Most Eminent Cast Ever Offered In A Musical Organization".
Players in this Follies production included
George Bickel, Harry Watson, Nora Bayes, Arthur Deagon, Billy Reeves, Jack Norworth, Seymour Brown, William Powers, Dazie
and others. The interior of program includes two photographs along the top border, depicting other Follies shows (Around The World With Uncle Sam, and The Society Prize Fight). Wonderful and whimsical artwork adorn these pages as well, with Follies characters pictured (Taxicab Girl, Diamond Dan, etc.). There is also a listing of media reviews from New York City newspapers as well.

History
: the
Ziegfeld Follies
was a series of elaborate theatrical revue productions on Broadway in New York City from 1907-1931. Inspired by the Folies Bergere of Paris, the Ziegfeld Follies were conceived by
Florenz Ziegfeld
, reportedly at the suggestion of his then-wife, entertainer
Anna Held
. The Follies were a series of lavish revues, something between later Broadway shows and the more elaborate high class Vaudeville variety show. The very first Follies was produced in 1907, making this 1908 Ziegfeld Follies program an extremely early example!

Condition
: this vintage theater program/flyer exhibits fold lines and scattered/small edge tears. With that being said, the program's integrity is
solid
and
displays great!!
